Memories, the organic silk capsule collection

Memories, the organic silk capsule collection

Memories of a time where all species co-existed harmoniously. A homage to Nature and a warning to the human race.

Nature is the protagonist, both in the design and in the substance, of Pierre-Louis Mascia’s capsule collection.

All the silk shirts are GOTS certified (Global Organic Textile Standard), which grants the content of natural fibers from organic origin, the traceability throughout the entire production process, the restrictions on the use of chemical products and respect for environmental and social criteria in all phases of the production chain.

The Organic Silk capsule, Memories - Chapter 1.

From his personal illustration archives Pierre-Louis Mascia has selected and reinterpreted nine botanical and entomological 19th century prints featuring sophisticated images of sinuous birds or delicate dragonflies and bees.

Amongst the prints only one relates to the human species, a motive of small graphical pencil-sketched skulls, symbolizing the risk run by our species with its non-sustainable behavior. The evocative prints are artfully placed, a novelty for PLM, master of all-over.

The Organic Silk capsule, Memories - Chapter 2.

Pierre-Louis Mascia reinterprets spring flowers, shells, minerals and corals taken from his personal archive of illustrations.

The new edition of the Organic Silk capsule aims to remind us that the mineral and aquatic world is disappearing and, like a scrapbook, evokes the beauty of what has already disappeared. A way of challenging the fragility of the mineral and plant world.

Pierre-Louis Mascia X Cabana Magazine

Pierre-Louis Mascia X Cabana Magazine

Pierre-Louis Mascia capsule collection with Palais Galliera coming exclusively to Cabana. Inspired by 18th century prints, this timeless collection features a series of velvet dressing gowns, twill scarves, silk trousers, and more.

The delicate, refined, floral pattern of a gentleman’s dressing-gown thus gets metamorphosed by the severe lines of a print intended for a necktie, and redesigned into a reversible kimono made from quilted silk.

The flounces of a cotton camisole printed with an engraved copper plate (around 1780) are enlarged and immortalized to create the material of a long shirt with a Mao collar.

Each garment thus “recomposed” is matched with a scarf with double-sided printed patterns – a true technical feat.

Bridging the gap between prêt à porter and home textiles, the eight prints enliven a series of velvet pyjamas, dressing gowns, quilts and Venetian slippers. The loungewear garments have a natural sort of sophistication which blurs the frontier between indoor and outdoor, thus inviting you to wear them for an evening party too.

Says Pierre-Louis Mascia: “Those prints tell us about ourselves, about who we are, and I want to be part of that memory. This timeless collection, entirely made from silk, which can be mixed with the prêt à porter line, is above all an encounter with the people who desired, commissioned, then wore those clothes. Their vision has remained intact throughout the centuries. I have simply made some additions and mixed different periods, freeing myself from any constraints or taboos. My only rule is that of creation.”

An unprecedented alliance between history and technical skills, past and present, indoor and outdoor, baroque and modern design; above all the capsule collection conveys emotion and meaning.

Pierre-Louis Mascia/Palais Galliera capsule collection

Bringing back to life long-forgotten 18th- century prints and using the power of ultra-modern design to catapult them into the 21st century: that is what Pierre-Louis Mascia has imagined, tapping into the collections of the Palais Galliera, the Paris Museum of Fashion.

Pierre-Louis Mascia presents the new capsule collection in cooperation with the Palais Galliera, exclusively available at cabanamagazine.com

The idea sprang from the designer’s meeting with Pascale Gorguet-Bollesteros, the curator in charge of the “18th century and dolls” department in the Museum. She gave him access to the 18th- century archives, neglected by most curators and designers who prefer the 19th - century collections seen as less remote, more numerous, and easier to draw from because they are less “theatrical”.

Pierre-Louis Mascia then picked out eight historic items with remarkable prints. By mixing their patterns with very modern ones he created a timeless capsule collection made up of loungewear with sober, essential cuts, equally suitable for evening wear.

About ANNE ET VALENTIN X PIERRE-LOUIS MASCIA project

About ANNE ET VALENTIN X PIERRE-LOUIS MASCIA project

Sometimes, an encounter is best defined by the differences and the common ground it reveals. Exploring what the other is all about becomes an opportunity to tell a new story...

The PAROLES concept is the result of two entities meeting with, at its core, a love for culture and for the city of Toulouse. Different sets of expertise. Different universes. Common sense of aesthetics, a shared passion for color, graphic design and art. These common territories led to a fertile and daring creative exchange. Two brands finding each other, both known for their attachment to authenticity, away from the trend. A joyful collaboration, free from predetermined codes.

“Creation is a quest for singularity, the storytelling of who we are, of the kind of universe we aim to offer. I use my daily life and my sensitivity, always. My life nourishes my brand. ” PLM

“The round shape is at the core of A&V. We went all out. Uncensored. This stakefreeplayground gave birth to graphic, strong, expressive frames that resemble us. ” A&V

As if dipped in Jacques Prévert’s ink, each frame from the PAROLES concept is inspired by intense playfulness and, more specifically, the powerful text Je suis comme je suis , meaning “I am what I am”, made famous by French singer Juliette Greco. I am what I am has inspired many performers, amongst whom the great Gloria Gaynor. It sings of absolute, accepted, unabashed freedom, exempt from any dogma. The word-images conjured by poetry evoke worlds that resonate with our aspirations. These three models, each available in three colors, are meant for the truthful souls out there, who enjoy cultivating doubt, who love to tell stories and who, with ferocity and panache, see humor as the quintessential salt of life.

This enthusiastic and free-spirited collaboration gave birth to “artist” glasses, without a hint of opportunism. The singularity and the asymmetry of the models, rendered with colors, reign. These frames are beautiful front and behind, and details abound, thanks to a long, painstaking work, exploring all the possibilities offered by color, both in terms of placement techniques, and the number of colors we used.

An abundance of time, yes. And an abundance of freedom. Considering the object in its entirety. Taking a pictorial approach, too. It’s worth noting that, after his training in Fine Arts, PLM moved from the sheet of paper to the sheet of silk. From the prints he creates for his collections and products, there is an undeniable sense of poetry. That same personal, intimate process acts as a gateway for PLM to the creation of frames as sensitive and playful objects. Frank Stella also comes to mind as another source of inspiration, for his minimalism and his mastery of abstraction.

Preparation of the material, thoroughness, paint. A unique process. To ensure the execution of these ambitious models, we needed another kind of know-how, of the phenomenal kind, that of the Japanese, whose capacity to exceed expectations and go above and beyond is unparalleled. Only in Japan can you hope to achieve such precision in workmanship and detail work. Japan also has the very best titanium.

The detail, like the devil, is in the details. The cases and boxes of this Limited Edition were created according to the iconic patterns and colors of PLM, with prints that characterize his research for uniqueness.
